General info

The main 3 aims of the ATC are:

Whilst the ATC is not a recruiting agency for the RAF, although many cadets do go on to have successful careers within the UK military and being a cadet is an advantage when applying to any of the 3 services. The training and activities also help the cadets to learn and develop skill that employers in civilian life also look for.

To do this the ATC and 152 (City of Hull) Squadron provide a wide range of activities to support these aims.

All activities are fully supervised by qualified ATC staff.

1.1  Flying and Gliding

Many opportunities exist for cadets to experience flying, from flying the Grob Tutor on 30 minute Air Experience Flight to undertaking a Flying Scholarship which teaches the cadet how to fly a light aircraft.

Cadets may also experience flying in the RAF aircraft from helicopters to large aircraft such a the Hercules and for some lucky cadets a flight in a fast jet such as a Hawk or Tornado.

In addition to flying all cadets have a chance to undertake flying in the Air Cadets own fleet of gliders, this can lead to the cadet achieving their wings and flying solo.

1.2  Camps

To help cadets understand what life is like in the RAF they can attend camps at RAF stations all over the country and experience first hand what life in the RAF as all about and see what jobs and careers in the RAF are really like.

For some cadets visits to RAF stations abroad in Germany, Cyprus and Gibraltar are also available.

Other cadets can apply to attend the International Air Cadet Exchange (IACE), this gives the cadets a chance to see what being an Air Cadets in other countries is like, these countries range from the USA ,New Zealand and Ghana (Africa) with other IACE trips to countries in Europe.
1.3  Adventure Training

A number of differing Adventure Training Activities are available to cadets, from Corps arranged activities such as parachuting, Nordic skiing and sailing to Wing and Squadron organised weekends, these can include Windermere in the Lake District, survival training, camping and navigation weekends, rock climbing to high ropes confidence courses and water borne activities.
1.4  Target Shooting

Cadets are provided instruction on the safe handling of weapons and given training on the basic principles of target shooting.
Cadets will initially fire a small bore .22 calibre on a short range (up to 25m) before progressing onto a Cadet version of the British Army SA80 rifle, this can be fired by Cadet on ranges up to 300m.
at 152 Squadron we have a 2 lane 18m indoor range on which cadets can apply the lessons of marksmanship and hopefully achieve qualifying standards for the various ATC marksmanship badge.
1.5 Duke of Edinburgh Award

During their time in the ATC cadets can use the skill an d opportunities they have to achieve Bronze,Silver and Gold Awards.

These awards are nationally recognised award that may help employers to look more favourably at young people who achieved these standards.
1.6  Sports

We take part in lots of different sports, so there's something for everyone.

Athletics, football, rugby union, hockey, netball and swimming are just some of the sports we compete in inter squadron competitions.

If successful in theses events you can get the opportunity to represent the wing or region.

On a squadron level we have our own sports nights during the summer months and the cadets can choose what to do.
